Okay, everyone lie down and we'll tuck you in for this little
story...
everyone be quiet.
Back in the days of the
wild, wild west it was hard to communicate between great distances but this was impossible
until the invention of the telegraph. Well, as we all know after a spell, the Indians cut
down the wires, but before they did this, they were afraid of them. They thought they were
magic or messengers from the "other side".
When someone would send a message, being that the wires were solid copper and uninsulated, the wires and poles would click and clack. To the Indians, this sounded like spirits trying to contact them so they would lean up against the poles to hear the "voices" better. Since the sender would "stream" messages together, the sounds would run together so they sounded like a song. The Indians called them, "The song of the Singing Wire".
Okay, everyone go to sleep.
